On Sunday, April 2nd, the 2017 Major League Baseball season kicked off with three great games. On Sunday, the Cubs played against longtime rival, the St. Louis Cardinals, the Yankees against the Rays and the Giants against the Diamondbacks. This coming Tuesday, April 11, Chicago’s very own 2016 World Series Champs will be returning home for the official Chicago Cubs Home Opener; playing the first home game since Game 5 of the 2016 World Series.
Historically, the season after each World Series win, the Cubs were victorious in the following season’s home opener. With that said, after a World Series loss, they lost the following season’s home opener. We need to root root root for the Cubbies and hope for a win against the opposing team.
At 7:05pm on Monday night, the Cubs will be seeing the LA Dodgers for the first time since clinching the NLCS and knocking them out of the playoffs. As of right now, the Cubs have a 1-1 record so far and the Dodgers have a 2-1. Hopefully the Cubs can add another few losses to the Dodgers record, just like last year.
In the first year and season since the World Series title, we all have hopes that the Cubs can win it all again and be the first back to back World Series champions since the 99-00 Yankees and the first National League team to repeat as World Series champs since the Cincinnati Reds of 1975-76.
Our favorite Cubbies are also hoping for a winning season and 2nd championship under the belt. Kyle Schwarber, who only played less than half a season yet had an amazing World Series comeback is looking to make a great impact this season. Kris Bryant is coming off a MVP year and will sure be striving to attain that status again. Last year Anthony Rizzo was deemed the best defensive player in the National League with the Platinum Glove and is sure to make amazing defensive plays this season.
There are 81 home games this season. Get some tickets and see the amazing Cubs play this season!! Click here for the schedule!
