Once upon a time (about 4 months ago) the Chicago Cubs won the 2016 World Series, and it was a dream come true for all Cubs fans in the Chicagoland. This week, in a faraway place with warmer weather called Mesa, Arizona, those same champions officially return to baseball with the start of spring training.
On Tuesday, both the pitchers and catchers had to report to training camp. The rest of the team will be returning tomorrow, and the first official squad workout of 2017 will be on Saturday, February 18th.
Cubs spring training games officially begin on Saturday, February 25th with split-squad games against the Athletics and Giants. Spring training games will continue through the end of March. The Chicago Cubs spring training home field is at Sloan Park in Mesa, Arizona.
Here’s the tentative spring training schedule.
Have no fear, most of our favorite World Series champion Cubbies will be returning for another winning (hopefully) season this year. Javier Baez, Jake Arrieta, Willson Contreras, Addison Russell, Anthony Rizzo, Kris Bryant and many more of our favorites are on the 2017 roster. Unfortunately, not all of our favorites are back for another season. Aroldis Chapman is now with the Yankees, Dexter Fowler is now with the Cardinals and David Ross retired at the end of last season.
The Cubs regular season begins on Sunday, April 2nd in St. Louis against the Cardinals, and the home opener is scheduled for Monday, April 10th against the Dodgers. Tickets are already skyrocketing for the home opener. Check them out here, and get them quick before they jump in price again!
