Picture this: You get home from work after a long day. You throw your jacket over the nearest chair, kick your shoes off and plop onto the couch with plans of making dinner and relaxing for the rest of the night until you have to do it all over again tomorrow.
Instead of your nice, quiet night happening, you get a text from a friend saying they’re on their way. You look at your coffee table filled with mail and dirty dishes and jump up to clean as much as you can before your friend arrives.
This scenario has more likely than not happened to most of us before and we felt frantic trying to make our homes perfect before our guests arrived.
So, instead of that ever happening again, we’ve come up with 5 quick ways to make your home appear clean for the short time your guests are there.
Clear up dirty dishes
Dirty dishes are just gross and not something guests need to see. Pick up all of your dishes from around the house and throw them in the dishwasher. If you don’t have a dishwasher, stash them somewhere if you don’t have time to clean all of them (gross, we know, but effective). To prevent having a lot to clean in the future, keep yourself on a strict wash policy so you have less to clean before guests come over unexpected
The easiest way to make a space appear cleaner is to get rid of any clutter that may be on a table or the ground. Pick up any shoes off the ground, magazines off the coffee table, etc. and put them in their designated spots.
Throw any dirty or unfolded laundry in drawers or under the bed for the time being so there’s not a huge pile of clothes laying around anywhere. You could even throw them in the washer or dryer if you don’t have room. Get hampers for both dirty and clean clothes so you have somewhere to throw each if you don’t have time to clean or fold them.
Sweep or vacuum any area that needs it or even just the areas your guest will be passing though.
Get rid of any odors
It’s easy to become desensitized to any odors in your home. Go through your home with an air freshener to make it smell fresh and welcoming. You could also light a candle, which would also add some ambiance.
