Looking to spice up the weekend with something you don’t normally do? We’ve got you covered. We put together a list of 5 different events happening all over the Chicagoland area this coming weekend. Events ranging from holiday fun to live music spots are bound to keep you entertained this weekend before Monday hits you like a truck. Again.
If you haven’t had time to hit the market yet, you better get there this weekend. The market leaves Chicago on December 24th. Between Christmas, the workweek and the endless holiday parties, there’s not much time left. Christkindlmarket opens at 11:00 am every day and closes at 8:00 pm Sunday-Thursday and 9:00 pm Friday-Saturday.
The market is located at Daley Plaza between Washington, Clark and Dearborn street. Make sure you show up hungry because the second you walk into the market, your mouth starts watering for the many different German delicacies from a variety of vendors. The market features brats, sauerkraut, potato pancakes, roasted nuts and so much more. Wash all that down with their famous hot, spiced wine, a variety of German beer; and for those who are underage, hot cocoa and hot apple cider. Tip: most of the food and beverage vendors are cash only.
The rest of the market is filled with handmade products from Germany, like ornaments and other holiday themed knickknacks. Kill two birds with one stone and get some holiday shopping done as well!
Chicago’s Southside museum, located right off of Lake Shore Drive, is opening its doors for free* on Thursday, December 1 from 9:30 am to 4:00 pm.
If this is your favorite museum, then you’re welcome. If it’s not, then this is your chance to check it out, free of cost!
Like any museum, there’s so many things to see. The Museum of Science and Industry makes everything interesting with hands-on activities and tours. Get lost in the Mirror Maze, feel what it’s like to be in the eye of a tornado or travel stories underground and see what life was like for workers in the coal mines.
*Visitors must be Illinois residents with valid proof of residency.
Take a trip to the Old Town neighborhood and laugh your butt off at a comedy show. Multiple shows will be playing every night this weekend including Best of the Second City and Second City’s Holidazed and Confused. Tickets start at $21 for general admission.
The comedy club is also offering a Behind the Scenes Tour. Lasting about 45 minutes, the tour takes visitors through the many stages in the building; showing them how shows are put together, revealing juicy Second City gossip and playing fun improv games.
At the end of the tour, get some grub at their new restaurant, 1959 Kitchen & Bar, which is included in the package.
Tickets start at $55 for the tour and dinner afterwards.
Break out your choker necklaces and Gameboys because Wrigleyville’s famous Cubby Bear is hosting a 90’s Party Friday, December 2nd! Throughout the night, the bar will feature tons of throwback songs that’ll get you feeling nostalgic for your younger days.
The Cubby Bear is located kitty-corner from Wrigley field on the Southwest corner of Addison and Clark Street. This event is open to patrons 21+, and tickets are only $5!
Throw on your cowboy boots and head to River North for live Country music. Every night this weekend, Bub City is featuring a different performer each night at the downtown bar. Corey Cox will be performing Friday at 10:30 pm on Friday and the Senn Alan Band on Saturday at 11:00 pm.
Additionally, if you’re feeling like whiskey and barbeque this weekend, Bub City offers customers over 125 different whiskeys. They also serve delicious wings, BBQ sandwiches and ribs. This place has it all to make you feel like you’ve transported to the South.
